Anne's Appetite

About Anne's Appetite

Yiasou & hello! I’m Anne, the person behind Anne’s Appetite – a Greek food blog inspired by family recipes, comforting home cooking and the traditions I grew up with.

Many of the recipes you’ll find here come straight from my yiayiades, aunties, family friends and the kitchens I spent years learning in. Some are traditional Greek recipes passed down through generations, while others are modern family favourites that have slowly earned a permanent place at our table.

At its heart, Anne’s Appetite is about preserving Greek family recipes and the stories attached to them. Because in Greek households, food is never just food. It’s how we celebrate, grieve, gather, show love and keep family traditions alive.

Alongside authentic Greek recipes, you’ll also find Mediterranean-inspired meals, comforting dinners, baked desserts and recipes from other cuisines my family loves. Even in a Greek household, sometimes all you need is a good pasta, slow-cooked beef dish or bowl of soup.

Why I Started Anne’s Appetite

Food has always been a huge part of my life. Some of my strongest memories revolve around crowded tables, handwritten recipes, family gatherings and watching the women around me somehow create incredible meals without ever measuring a thing.

Over time, I realised how many of those recipes only existed in conversations, memories or scraps of paper tucked inside kitchen drawers. Starting Anne’s Appetite became my way of preserving them, not just for myself and my children, but for anyone wanting to reconnect with the kind of cooking that feels nostalgic, generous and made with heart.

I’ve never understood the idea of keeping family recipes hidden away. The women in my family found joy in teaching others to cook and feeding anyone who walked through the door. Sharing these recipes feels like continuing that tradition.

The “Blue Book” Rule

In our house, we have something called the blue book.

It’s exactly what it sounds like: a well-worn book filled with the recipes that officially made the cut. If a recipe earns a spot in the blue book, it means it has been cooked repeatedly, adjusted, questioned by family members, perfected over time and finally approved by the toughest Greek critics imaginable.

Only the recipes that pass the blue book test make it onto Anne’s Appetite.

That means the recipes you see here aren’t rushed out for content’s sake. They’re recipes I genuinely cook, serve to family and come back to again and again.

Meet My Family

Outside the kitchen, I’m a proud mum to two beautiful children, Thomas and Amelia, and wife to a man who is about as Greek as a kangaroo in a kilt, although he’d strongly disagree and still insists he’s somehow related to Alexander the Great.

His role on the website mostly involves taste-testing recipes, yelling “Bravo!” whenever something turns out well, and confidently offering opinions he probably shouldn’t.

And then there was Pete, our beloved staffy, Pandeli when we were feeling especially Greek. Pete was part of our family for over 15 years and rarely left my side especially while I cooked. Losing him left a massive hole in our home, and if you see him mentioned throughout the website or on social media, it’s because he was such a big part of this chapter of our lives. In many ways, he’ll always remain part of Anne’s Appetite too.

Cooking Without Perfection

I don’t have formal culinary training, and honestly, that was never really the point.

Everything I know has come from watching, helping, failing, trying again and learning from the incredible home cooks around me. Anne’s Appetite isn’t about restaurant-style perfection or overly complicated cooking. It’s about recipes that feel achievable, comforting and worth making again.

Whether it’s learning how to stretch filo pastry, making your first batch of tsoureki or finally recreating your yiayia’s avgolemono soup, I want these recipes to feel approachable for everyday home cooks.

Recipes like my avgolemono soup recipe with chicken, homemade koulourakia recipe, and traditional Greek tsoureki recipe
all come from the same family traditions I grew up around.
